How to Propose Stand-Out Projects

That Get The Green Light!

What if you were confident you could get buy-in for your ideas and projects at work?

When you’re able to get more buy-in you have more opportunities to prove yourself, get noticed by the right people for the right reasons, and your team is more energized.

Even if…

  • You’re a new(ish) manager

  • You’re low on self-confidence when it comes to persuading “the powers that be”

  • You don’t feel seen or heard (but at the same time know you’re under the microscope)

And especially if you…

  • Think big

  • Want to excel quickly

  • Have inspiring ideas you’d be excited to share

Above all, you’d love to be certain how to propose ideas and projects in the best way possible that will convince your manager, their manager, and senior leadership to give you the green light.

Well, now you can.

“Getting the Green Light: Strategies to Successfully Influence Internal Stakeholders” is the fastest way to prove yourself and get noticed - after just one interactive, small group training day.

Picture this.

The organization you work for has a tricky challenge to solve. You have an idea for a solution that you’ve been researching and developing with your team.

You’re excited about the idea and there’s an opportunity coming up for you to propose it to the stakeholders in your organization. You would love to make the most of this chance to bring people on board with your proposal for a project.

But…You start feeling a bit nervous – you’re quite new to this role and you don’t feel established yet.

What if they don’t agree with you? Is your project doomed?

You want to improve how you pitch, and to prove you’re an effective leader for your team.

Sound familiar? I understand. I’ve been that new leader and had those same thoughts.

Hi, I’m Ellia.

When I first became a manager, I quickly realized, “New managers don’t get a user manual!”

I regularly needed to persuade my manager or senior staff about a direction that I wanted to take with my team, or a project we wanted to launch.

But early in my management career, I didn't have much confidence about my ability to influence others.

The most relevant training that my manager would approve was for negotiating. This was a good start, but it was more sales-based. It didn't provide the interpersonal skills development that I was looking for.

So I taught myself.

I researched many books and pulled out concepts from them. I watched what my colleagues did and saw what worked well (and what didn’t!). I started to see patterns to successful influencing that I could put into practice.

Since then, I’ve pitched dozens of ideas and projects, testing and refining what I learned from each pitch. Now I have clearly defined the essential foundations for successful pitching of ideas and projects.

When coaching new managers, I’ve noticed that one of the biggest problems that still gets overlooked the most is how to influence internal stakeholders to green light your project.

Other coaches are going to tell you it’s about mindset and smart goals. Don’t get me wrong, those things are important.

But if you truly want to excel quickly at getting the green light from stakeholders, then you need:

  • The right planning

  • Knowing who to talk to and when

  • How to communicate with them

Combine these three essentials of stakeholder influencing with a proven process and you’re on the fast track to gaining approval for:

  • A new project or the next iteration of an existing product or service

  • Access to any additional funding needed

  • Staff required for the project

"It’s been a game changer to have a trusted coach by my side. Ellia is calm and resourceful with a grounded demeanor that made me feel okay about not having all the answers. She talks about light bulbs but she actually shows up with a flashlight, exposing areas where I get stuck and walking me through to solutions."
