With so much information available about problem-solving, it’s hard to piece everything together. What can you do to get started?

We live with a vast pool of information at our fingertips. There is always someone willing to tell us the ‘best’, ‘fastest’, or ‘only’ way to do anything imaginable.

No wonder we are overwhelmed with choices and confused about the best way to achieve anything!

If you are confused about the best way to produce your next big idea, this blog post may provide some insight.

There are many ways to problem-solve creatively, and you will find the way that suits you (and your team) best by practicing, reviewing, and refining the processes and tools you choose to explore.

I am often asked “What is the best brainstorming tool to generate fresh ideas with my team? There are so many out there!.”

There are basically four types of brainstorming tools. It’s best to experiment with all of these in order to find out which resonates best with your team. Very briefly they are:

  • Re-Expression - using alternative words, drawing, acting something out, or seeing things from someone else’s perspective

  • Related Worlds - asking “In what other world has my challenge been faced?”

  • Random Links - making associations between the issue and completely random items, often in the form of an analogy or metaphor

  • Revolution - deliberately breaking the mind’s rules around incoming data

For bringing brainstorming to team problem-solving, the easiest way to start is by following a tested process.

I have created a step-by-step process for team ideating – and tested it in over twenty years of delivering workshops on creative problem-solving and innovation. I’m sharing this Brainstorming Blueprint in a mini-Masterclass very soon.
