What the WEF predicts for business transformation

The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2023 is out.

Not surprisingly, it predicts an increase in jobs in technology as a key driver of business transformation. Naturally, I was interested to find out what the report said about the value of creative problem-solving in business transformation. This is what I found:

  • Analytical thinking and creative thinking [are] the most important skills for workers in 2023 … ahead of resilience, flexibility, and agility … with creative thinking to be growing in importance more rapidly than analytical thinking.

  • The socio-emotional attitudes which businesses consider to be growing in importance most quickly are curiosity, lifelong learning, resilience, flexibility and agility.

  • 40% of companies plan to focus on developing skills in leadership and social influence.

These findings support my belief that leadership training for new managers needs to be based on a mindset of curiosity and the development of creative thinking skills:

  • A mindset of curiosity enables leaders to focus more on the needs of their team and their organization. There’s an artform to this, because many leaders are more concerned about being right and knowing all the answers. People new to management are naturally curious, and this is the perfect time to provide leadership training that shows how curiosity drives business transformation.

  • Developing creative thinking skills is important not just for leaders, but for their team as well. People new to management rarely have the experience or expertise to facilitate creative thinking in a way that addresses the right problem and which supports the mission and goals of the organization. Providing this training early in their management career can accelerate business transformation.

  • At The Potential Center, we have the expertise and experience of training new leaders in a way that leverages curiosity and provides the skills necessary to facilitate team-based creative thinking. Schedule a free strategy session to get a taste of what this could look like for you or your organization.
